WEST Perth can qualify for a second straight reserves grand final with a win over Subiaco in this Sunday's second semi-final at Medibank Stadium and enters the clash with plenty of firepower led by Shayne Zanetti and Matt Fowler in attack.

West Perth's reserves made last year's grand final before going down to South Fremantle unable quite to replicate the success of the league side in 2013, but the Falcons' reserves have remained strong in 2014 to enter the finals from second position on the ladder.

Now a win over Subiaco on Sunday at Leederville and West Perth will be into a second straight grand final then with the aim of going one step better in 2014 than they managed in 2013.

WEST Perth finished off the 2014 WAFL season with an 82-point thumping of Perth at Lathlain Park on Saturday with Dan Hunt and Anthony Tsalikis enjoying the best possible send off in the last games of their glittering careers.

The game was supposed to not only the last in the careers of Hunt and Tsalikis, but also the 150th appearance with West Perth for premiership ruckman Chris Keunen but he was a late withdrawal due to a severe migraine delaying his milestone until Round 1 next year.

However, that was the only disappointment of the day with West Perth dominant the wooden spooners Perth and handing the Demons a 14th consecutive defeat to finish the season with as the Falcons ran out 21.18 (144) to 9.8 (62) winners.

WEST Perth farewelled two of its favourite sons in emphatic style at Lathlain Park on Saturday. The Falcons overcame early resistance from Perth to run out 82-point winners and finish the careers of Dan Hunt and Anthony Tsalikis with a well-deserved victory.

Both players kicked four goals with 'Slick' moving into third spot in the highest goal scorer list with 336 majors and Hunt increasing his tally to six for his career. The move up forward was enjoyed by all but his loss as the key back will be sorely felt.

Congratulations to Cameron Branch who played his 150th game for the club, a mixture of league and reserves. He has been a terrific club man during his time at West Perth. The only down side on a day that saw all three sides record a victory was the inability of Chris Keunen to play his 150th game and receive life membership due to a debilitating migraine. We look forward to him achieving this next year.

DAN Hunt might not like the attention but the West Perth premiership defender and life member will go down as one of the Falcons' all-time great defenders as he prepares to play the final game of his career on Saturday against Perth at Lathlain Park.

Hunt arrived at West Perth in 2005 following three years with the Sydney Swans and ever since has been the mainstay of the Falcons defence, and one of the very best key backmen in the WAFL over the course of his 168-game career.

Along the way, Hunt has had his named etched on to the No. 12 locker, has become a life member of the West Perth Football Club, represented WA and was a key contributor in the 2013 premiership playing a starring role in the grand final win over East Perth.

WELL we have now reached the final match of the season for the league side. It is a big game for our football club with two of the club's stalwarts retiring and my 150th league game for the West Perth Football Club.

I feel very privileged to be able to play 150 games for this club. There was a period where I didn’t think I would play 50 let alone become a life member. Life membership is a huge honour to be given and one that I see as being the greatest accolade anyone involved in any club can be awarded. 

While you never play sport to get these types of honours it is a great way to be recognised for the effort and time you have put in to help the team and club succeed. I look forward to joining this illustrious club.

WEST Perth looks to end its 2014 WAFL season with a win against Perth at Lathlain Park on Saturday and to do so to farewell Dan Hunt and Anthony Tsalikis with a victory, and to celebrate ruckman Chris Keunen's 150th match.

West Perth's best football this season has still been outstanding with the reigning premiers just unable to deliver the consistency that took them to the ultimate success last year.

Perth and West Perth have met just the once this season and that was way back in Round 3 at HBF Arena with the Falcons winning that contest by 18 points.

A WEST Perth premiership player will be writing a column for the club's website every week of the 2014 WAFL season. This week's edition is Ray Bartholomew's latest offering discussing the retirements of Dan Hunt and Anthony Tsalikis.

OBVIOUSLY at first it's disappointing to hear that the boys are going to retire but in saying that at the same time you understand their reasoning for it. Obviously with Anthony he has more work commitments and wants to travel more with his girlfriend so it gives him the opportunity to do that and with Dan, he has a young family and with his position with work he wants to spend more time with that and obviously his family. Whether or not both of them play somewhere in the country next year I'm not sure, and they might, but if they don’t I'm sure they will stay in reasonable nick.

WEST Perth couldn’t quite pull off a strong second half comeback at the Claremont Showground on Saturday with Claremont holding on to win the contest by six points.

West Perth only managed to kick the one goal in each of the first two quarters of the contest, but then hit back in the second half with the only goal of the third quarter and then with the first two goals of the fourth quarter.

That saw the Falcons close to within under a goal of the Tigers during the last quarter, but in the end an in-form Claremont team recorded the 8.6 (54) to 6.12 (48) victory.

WEST Perth held Claremont to just one goal in the second half but the Falcons still lost to their opponents at the Showground on Saturday. As has been the case all year the Falcons found goals hard to come by and this was never more evident than in the first half when they kicked just two as opposed to the Tigers' seven. At no time did West Perth lead the game but it was a match that they could have won.

The conditions were sunny and fine but the ground appeared heavy as the ball rarely covered 50 metres during the course of the game. The Tigers dominated from the beginning of the first term and by the 24-minute mark led by three straight. Their goals went to Tom Ledger, Jack Bradshaw and Jackson Starcevich. The score to Bradshaw was his only one for the game as the dangerous forward was well held by Laine Rasmussen. The only Falcon goal for the quarter went to WAFL debutant Corey Chalmers who took the ball off hands to snap on his left from 30 metres out. Unfortunately for West Perth, Claremont replied right on the siren and they took an 18-point lead into the first change; 4.2 (26) to 1.2 (8).

IT HAS been a pretty tough and frustrating year for us. We've been very inconsistent with our form and that's disappointing because when we play well we are pretty much unbeatable, but this year when we've played poorly we have played very poorly.

That is frustrating because we know how well we can play when we are on top of everything and playing to our game style. There has been some good things to come out of the season, though, especially with the young group coming through who have had the chance to show that they can play senior towards the end of the year.
