WAFLW R7 Match Report

Author: West Perth FC

The Sharks descended on HIF Health Insurance Fund Oval for a double-header under lights with the Rogers Cup first up, hoping to continue on their merry way after finding form against Peel Thunder the week before.

The first-half played out as a hot-contest with bold ball movement by both sides – With both sides struggling to penetrate eithers’ defences. It wasn’t until Leuca KRMPOTIC’s 2nd goal, that sparked a resurgence to begin the third quarter.

The Sharks were valiant in contest but were unable to capitalise on their looks at goal during the third with Lunay VAN DEN HEEVER and Olivia FERGUSON continuing to showcase their importance behind the ball with intercept marks, advantage-kick D50 exits and aggressive run.

2025 new-comer, Charli CLARKE continues to impress. The North Beach product has shown an innate ability to learn QUICK, with her capacity to grow coming at an exponential rate.

Our Rogers Cup side ran away winners 8.9 (57) to 3.5 (23) and continue to sit atop the Hart Sports Rogers Cup ladder.

A wayward WAFLW side wasted a great chance at a percentage boost after kicking 3.10 in our victory against the Sharks.

East Fremantle were the only club we were yet to defeat since joining the WAFLW competition in 2022 so the feat itself was celebrated and enjoyed by all.

Despite having 4 more scoring shots, we trailed the Sharks at 3QT but all the numbers indicated we were on top at contest, on the outside and in our inside 50 opportunities.

We certainly won far more of the ball, with us boasting the 7 leading possession getters on the field with Emily BENNETT, marquee recruit Madison DODD and promising young draft-prospect Mia Russo, among them.

Livewire Jamarah WOODS, kicked multiple goals in the final period showcasing the importance of small forwards in the crumbing game at WAFLW level with Lexi STRACHAN the other goal kicker – With her goal coming at a pivotal time during the 4th quarter to break the spirit of the Sharks and lift the energy of the Falcons to put them in front.

This makes 3 wins in a row for the WAFLW side who, after a slow start, are playing an exciting brand of football that is enjoyable to play and more importantly, enjoyable for our fans.

Both West Perth Womens sides’ play Perth this weekend – WAFLW on Saturday at 5pm with Rogers Cup on the Sunday at 10am.
