West Perth Football Club is proud to announce the appointment of its Head Coaches for the 2026 Academy programs, reinforcing the club’s ongoing commitment to developing the next generation of female football talent within the district.

As the club continues to strengthen its industry-leading female football pathway, two highly respected leaders have been appointed to guide the next wave of emerging Falcons.

Gianoncelli to Lead Laura Pugh Academy in Sixth Season

Heading into its sixth year, the Laura Pugh Academy will be led by Naomi Gianoncelli, following a standout 2025 season in which she was recognised as the AFL BHP Community Coach of the Year.

Gianoncelli’s appointment marks another significant step in the Academy’s evolution, bringing elite-level coaching insight, strong leadership and a passion for female football development.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to contribute to female football development and help nurture the talent coming through the West Perth district,” Gianoncelli said.

“The Academy is part of West Perth’s industry-leading female football development pathway, designed to fast-track young players with elite coaching, skill development and personal growth opportunities.”

“I’m also excited about working alongside Dana Hooker, whose experience and leadership will be invaluable as we create opportunities and support the next generation of female footballers in our community.”

Hooker to Guide Brooke Hongell Academy in Second Year

The Brooke Hongell Academy enters its second year under the leadership of former West Coast Eagles AFLW player Dana Hooker.

Hooker’s 10-year elite career brings invaluable experience to the program, providing young Falcons with direct exposure to the standards, mindset and professionalism required at the highest level.

“Playing football gave me so much over a long period of time, which I will always be so grateful for,” Hooker said.

“I’m looking forward to giving back to the female football community and helping develop the next group of girls coming through the talent pathway.”

Her appointment further strengthens the club’s commitment to providing aspirational role models and elite development opportunities for young female footballers across the West Perth district.

Strengthening the Female Talent Pathway

Pathways Manager and Academy Manager Dave Burton expressed his pride in the continued growth and impact of the programs.

“We are extremely proud of the opportunities we provide for young developing females within our district and honoured to have the services of two dynamic Head Coaches in Naomi and Dana driving the development, further enhancing our programs,” Burton said.

With the leadership of Gianoncelli and Hooker, the 2026 Academy programs are poised to build on their strong foundations — delivering elite coaching, structured skill development and meaningful personal growth opportunities for aspiring female footballers.

As the female game continues to grow, West Perth remains committed to creating clear pathways, strong mentorship and an environment where young Falcons can thrive both on and off the field.
