HBF ARENA DEVELOPMENT PLANS FINALISED

Thursday, May 12, 2016 - 4:26 PM

PLANS have been finalised for the $24 million development at HBF Arena with EMCO Construction chosen as the successful contractor for the works that should be completed by September 2017.

The development will include new football facilities for the West Perth Football Club that will feature new function areas, new player amenities, football development services and administration and member facilities.

On top of providing the staff, players, members and supporters with some outstanding facilities, the development will also provide the West Perth Football Club with some increased revenue streams as the club looks to further consolidate its financial security.

The finalisation of the plans for the HBF Arena development has been made possible with the Liberal National Government delivering on an election commitment by allocating a further $4.3 million to finalise the construction.

That $4.3 million has been allocated to Western Australia in the 2016-07 State Budget, and is on top of the $20 million commitment made by the WA State Government.

The first stage of the redevelopment at HBF Arena includes extra courts for the Joondalup Netball Association, and an expansion of the western oval and a second rugby field – both of which have already been completed.

The next stage is the West Perth Football Club facilities followed by a new four-court basketball stadium for the Wanneroo Basketball Association that will be constructed on the current grassed area at the front of HBF Arena.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies is excited at what the facility will provide for the northern suburbs.

"This project will transform community sporting facilities at HBF Arena," Ms Davies said.

"While the various clubs at HBF Arena will benefit from these new facilities, in the end it will be the communities of the northern suburbs that will benefit from the redevelopment."

Treasurer Mike Nahan outlined that the federal funding will help in the upgrading of the infrastructure at HBF Arena, including more car parking bays.

"Additional power supplies, gas, water and sewerage upgrades and extra rainwater drainage need to be completed," Dr Nahan said.

"As well an additional 356 car bays to allow the community of the northern suburbs to fully access these new facilities."

West Perth Football Club President Brett Raponi is buoyed by the finalisation of the HBF Arena plans that sets up an exciting future for the club he is at the helm of.

"This is indeed the most significant development within our tenure in Joondalup. This will provide West Perth Football Club with a platform to secure our long-term future," Raponi said.

"The new facility will have a strong Falcons presence and I expect will exceed our members and fans expectations. It will also be adaptable and appealing to the wider sporting and business community of the northern suburbs for their own use.

"I would like to thank the state government, VenuesWest and the City of Joondalup for the support and commitment to our club. I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of our CEO David Crute and fellow directors Rob Jackson and Scott Ballem for their long-term commitment to the project.

"This will be a facility that will be of the equal to anything else within the WAFL. It will ensure we can grow on and off the field, and remain one of the powerhouse clubs of the WAFL."
