Moora Citrus driving West Perth’s female pathway 

As naming rights partner of the Moora Citrus Female Football Pathway, Moora Citrus has helped West Perth build a six-year academy model creating opportunities into WAFLW, State programs and future AFLW pathways.

West Perth Football Club is proud to thank Moora Citrus for four years of committed support as naming rights partner of the Moora Citrus Female Football Pathway — now one of the club’s longest serving and most valued partnerships. 

The pathway now includes two key academies — the Brooke Hongell Under 13s Academy and the Laura Pugh Under 16s Academy — supporting players at critical stages of their development. 

Across six years, Moora Citrus’ support has helped those academies grow significantly, expanding access to elite coaching, strength and conditioning, education and personal development. That investment is helping players progress into Rogers Cup, WAFLW, State programs and AFLW draft conversations. 

The results reflect that impact. West Perth had eight players selected in the 2026 School Sport WA AFL 14s Girls State Team, seven Falcons were named in the initial 2026 AAMI WA Football State 18s Girls squad, and Lexi Strachan was appointed joint captain of the State 18s group. Strachan, Cara Dziegielewski and current WAFLW player Rikisha Nannup are strong examples of talent emerging through the pathway. 

It is a point of pride for the athletes, families, coaches, district clubs and the broader West Perth community — and a clear sign of what Moora Citrus has helped make possible through sustained investment in female football.

Moora Citrus has been central to that growth, helping the academies expand and giving players access to development opportunities that lead to high-level outcomes. 

Damien Guthrie, General Manager of Northern Valley Packers, part of the Moora Citrus Group, said the partnership with West Perth was a natural extension of the organisation’s values. 

“Oranges have long been synonymous with sport and half-time, so this partnership has always felt like a natural fit for Moora Citrus,” Guthrie said. “At the heart of what we do is growing, nurturing and developing, and we are proud to support a program that gives young female footballers every opportunity to succeed. It is incredibly rewarding to see the fruits of this pathway now coming to bear, and the results are a testament to the hard work of the players, coordinators, coaches, staff and wider West Perth community.” 

West Perth Academies Manager – Female Pathways Dave Burton said the results were a proud reflection of the partnership behind the program.
