WAFL League & Reserves Round 5 Match Report
Congratulations to Campbell Herley & the Rogers Cup team for kicking the day off well down at Lane Group Stadium, and chalking up their 1st win of the season. The WAFLW girls followed suit with their first back to back wins for the season, well done to Clint Degebrodt & all involved within that program.
A poor performance from our league team, netted a 71 point loss, one the 23 selected players that take to the field this week must respond against. Our reserves team competed well, getting there nose ahead in the 4th quarter, however a late goal to Peel resulted in a narrow 5 point loss. The reserves performances have been the bright light of the season to date, and one that reflects the improved level of depth on our list, Zac Sprigg, Ben Fairbank & John Coleman all players that performed well.

Emily Bennett drove the midfield, with Mia Robis providing strong run and connection from the wing. Up forward, Sabreena McKinnon made a statement against her former side with four goals, while Sara Riou added pressure and versatility across forward and midfield.
Jorgina Kean was composed in defence, applying strong pressure and helping launch transition.
The Falcons’ young State 18s were also influential, with Miley Hynes and Cara Dziegielewski hitting the scoreboard with two goals apiece, while Lexi Strachan added impact through the midfield with a goal. Rikisha Nannup worked tirelessly in transition, linking play across the ground.

West Perth Falcons 7.11 (53) def. Peel Thunder 4.5 (29)
Lane Group Stadium
West Perth’s Rogers Cup side has claimed its first win of the season, a reward for weeks of growth and belief, with a composed 24-point victory over Peel Thunder.
The Falcons set the tone early and held control across the day, responding to every challenge and finishing strongly to secure the result.
Trista Smoker was dominant across the ground, finding plenty of the footy and finishing her work with two goals. Indiana Dickerson set the standard at the contest with relentless pressure and strong contested ball, while Vienna Matera continued her consistent form through the midfield with repeat contested possessions and drive.
On debut, Liliana made an immediate impact hitting the scoreboard, while Ella Molloy-Broughton provided outstanding defensive pressure across all four quarters.
This win reflects a side that has steadily built its identity, tough at the contest, connected across the ground, and committed to each other. With confidence now building, this group has laid a strong foundation and looks ready to carry momentum into the weeks ahead.

Marlee Resources Colts Round 5 Match Report
Whilst the journey down to Peel is a long one, our young Falcons made the trip Friday afternoon with a goal to get back on the winners list.
A further 4 x debutants were named in Max Bowers, Hudson Fowler, Tyson Chapman and Joel Reynolds – Bringing our squad up to 23 debutants for the year. Our program is pleased to be seeing so many young lads get opportunities so early in the program whilst we manage injuries, state commitments and reward commitment, dedication and performance on the track.
It would be safe to say that we started slow, with Peel, hungry for their first win since the 2024 season, came out firing o all cylinders which meant our young falcons were on the back foot early.
It was the inspired effort of young 17 year old, Blake Jones, (named MVP) who’s 22 disposals to go with his 11 tackles willed his teammates and side back into the contest, chipping away at Peel’s lead during the second half. Blake Jones was ably supported by co-captains Luca Boczar and Hunter Bewick with 47 touches, 8 tackles and a scoreboard impact between them.
Whilst the young falcons showed great grit and determination to get themselves back into the contest, the first-half blow-out was simply too much to claw back and was a great learning opportunity for our boys on the importance of being 4-quarter athletes.
Final scoreline was PT 9.9 (63) def WP 8.9 (57)
Falcons must simply look ahead to a late night smash with the Lions at 7pm under-lights here at HIF Oval next Saturday night (9th May).
