City of Joondalup WAFLW Round 8 Match Report

Venue: Mineral Resources Park
Result: Perth 9.2 (56) def. West Perth 6.9 (45)

West Perth travelled to Mineral Resources Park for a competitive Round 8 clash, with Perth finishing strongly to take the win.

The Falcons remained in the contest through three quarters but were unable to fully sustain momentum into the final term, with Perth capitalising late. The match again highlighted the need for four-quarter consistency as the group continues to develop.

With several WAFLW players away on State 18s duty, the game provided valuable opportunities for others to step into increased roles at WAFLW level with debutants Ella Fiest and Teah Houlihan.

Key mentions Tahlee McVee was influential off half-back, reading opposition entries well with strong intercept positioning and driving clean rebound play from defence. Sophie Fisher competed strongly in midfield/forward contests with consistent pressure in the air , while Jess Roper provided repeat efforts and intensity around the ball. Kat Bennett offered a strong forward target, creating opportunities through pressure and contest work, and Ellee McEvoy was composed in transition, using speed and smart link-up play to move the ball through the ground.

We return home to regroup, reset, and continue building for the second half of the season.

Delta Lithium Rogers Cup Round 8 Match Report

Venue: Mineral Resources Park
Result: Perth 7.9 (51) def. West Perth 5.2 (32)

West Perth were competitive throughout their Rogers Cup clash at Mineral Resources Park, but Perth’s ability to convert territory into scoreboard pressure proved decisive, running out 19-point winners.

The Falcons showed strong patches around the contest and through transition, however consistency across the four quarters remained the difference in the final outcome.

Mia Smith and Ava Millar were both influential in the midfield, competing strongly in contested situations and helping drive West Perth’s clearance work and inside pressure. Samantha Martland provided a strong tall presence across the ground, impacting aerial contests and assisting in linking play from defence to attack.

Amity Spencer was a solid target up forward, lifting the forward structure and providing an important focal point inside 50, while Bella Matera was composed and dominant across the field, contributing strongly in defence and transition to generate movement out of the back half.

West Perth continue to show growth in structure and effort, with key contributors stepping up across all lines despite the result.

Marlee Resources Colts Round 7 Match Report

Words could not describe the chill in the air on Friday night, which saw the Demons host the Falcons under-lights at Mineral Resources Park with both sides equal on wins on the ladder, it was a question of who could and would even the ledger by the final siren.

It must be said that as an on-looker, it was a scrappy game to begin with. Both sides squandering chances, fumbling ground-balls, dropping marks – quite frankly it wasn’t the standard you’d expect from these boys.

However, a quick ‘reset’ from head coach Steve Chapman at the QT break saw our young Falcons snap into gear and assert themselves on the game in a really professional way.

It really was a ‘skippers’ game by our own Luca Boczar who’s rebounding efforts from D50 set the tone for some aggressive ball movement and inside-50s with himself kicking true and celebrated handsomely – He finished the game with 36 touches, 2 tackles and 1 goal.

However, he wasn’t alone in these efforts, key defender and smokie-state prospect Tadhg Barrowclough was a brick wall in defence with 19 marks to go with his 36 touches. He too was supported by the ever-reliable Blake Jones who finished with 35 touches, 6 tackles and a goal too – They truly were on fire.

Young developing tall Lachlan Jones is too starting to fill with confidence as his athleticism and ruck craft were a real strength on Friday night – Kicking 2 goals himself, one a drop-punt from the tightest of boundary angles – Seeing Lachy’s growth from repeated injuries fills our club with great confidence that Lachy’s future is bright.

What was most pleasing was the Big Duck’ (Harrison Wain) who finished with 12 contested possessions from his 24 touches – Showing how quickly he is adapting to our game after crossing from soccer as a goal keeper just 2 years ago.

But it was the quiet achiever in Max Bowers who really impressed. Often in fantastic spots and un-used, his discipline to maintain width and to help the side retain the ball was a real highlight. Finished with 19 touches and 2 goals to go with his 5 inside-50s – Very impressive.

Whilst the Demons continued to press, to hunt and to pressure our Falcons, our class outshone them and the Falcons ran away comfortable victors with a 50 point win.

MVP – Luca Boczar

Goal Kickers – Bowers, Gliddon, L. Jones, Zuchetti (2 Goals), B. Jones, French, Boczar, Sewell, Chapman and McGuane (1 Goal).

Final Score – Perth 5.9 (39) def by West Perth 14.5 (89)
