WAFL Reserves Elimination Final Match Report

A great day for the WPFC, with the Colts kicking off the day in great fashion, well done to all involved within that program.

Onto the Reserves, nothing short of a brilliant team performance, four quarters of football with all 23 players who took to the field, playing their roles. A team stacked with WPFC talent pathway players, along with a sprinkling of others brought into the club to help improve our standards, & performances on the park. It was fantastic to see Cooper Bewick produce his best performance for the season, and highlight the attributes we know he has to transfer into a league player in the years to come. With a starting midfield of Rigoll, Wooden & Galjaardt, all players we expect to become key pillars for the years ahead, our domination from this engine room gave our forwards opportunities to put scoreboard pressure on from the outset. Ryan Gallen, a returning WPFC pathway player this season, from our Colts program in 2021, continued to show he has an exciting future ahead in the red & blue, through his exposure to league football this season his return to the Reserves was scintillating. First year players in the Senior program in Peter Young & Max Connell showed they have what it takes in big games, with Ben Fairbank & Xavier Vallejo highlighting consistently throughout the day how important the little things are out on the park, both elite characters & important footballers in the years ahead.

However, a highlight for the club amongst off field staff, was the response from players who unfortunately missed selection due to the squeeze which was always coming. To those individuals, you all attended with your heads up & shoulders back, which is a true testament to your character, it’s all a part of your individual journey as you strive to become the best versions of yourself. To the playing group who took to the field, your inclusiveness of your team mates singing the club song is what true club culture is all about, hat’s off to everyone involved from players, to coaches, staff & true supporters.

Let’s all get on that freeway to watch the Colts take on SFFC down at Lane Group Stadium, at 9:15 AM, & than back in our cars to MRP as the Reserves look to go one step further against Perth, with a 5:15pm kick off, stick together and keep on riding the wave, take care.
