THE $24-million redevelopment of HBF Arena providing a home for not only the West Perth Football Club but the Wanneroo Basketball Association and the Joondalup Wolves was officially opened on Saturday marking an exciting new era for the Falcons at the Joondalup venue.
Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray on Saturday officially opened the brand new basketball and football facilities at HBF Arena following an extensive $24 million redevelopment with majority of the funding from the State Government.
- $24 million redevelopment to support community and elite sport, supporting local jobs
- West Perth Football Club and Wanneroo Basketball Association to be major tenants
- Thousands more weekly visitors expected at HBF Arena
The finished project marks the completion of a four-part investment in community sporting infrastructure which has seen the existing community sporting facilities at HBF Arena transformed - while creating local jobs in a variety of industries.
The redevelopment includes new function areas, player amenities, football development services and administration and member facilities for the West Perth Football Club.
Four brand new basketball courts have also been constructed to the south of the existing courts at HBF Arena, providing a new home for the Wanneroo Basketball Association. Additional parking facilities have also been delivered.
Northern suburbs communities, the Wanneroo Basketball Club and West Perth Football Club now have access to a venue with world-class facilities, providing the perfect place to foster sporting success and support social sport.
Local and State government representatives, key project contributors, and members from the respective basketball and football clubs gathered to celebrate the completion of the project and mark the official opening.
Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:
"I am thrilled to officially open these brand new world-class facilities today that provide new homes for the West Perth Football Club and the Wanneroo Basketball Association.
"These facilities will provide new opportunities for local sport - from grassroots to State-level, with the $24 million State Government project having also created local jobs in a variety of industries.
"State and elite levels of sport can't exist without the grassroots areas being supported by quality, accessible venues."
