IN THEIR WORDS – LUKE MEADOWS ROUND 14
FALCONS faithful, you’ve asked, and I have delivered!
Coming off a tough week against Subiaco the lads have reviewed and learnt from the weekend and now look forward to the challenge of beating East Fremantle at Shark Park this Saturday.
They pose a threat with some quality recruits in the off-season but our ability to 'unite' as a team and be 'relentless' for four quarters will hold us in good stead for a 'professional' win - quote Aaron Black's pre-game speech.
It will be the last game before our bye where the troops will be getting a much-needed break after some tough games. Veterans such as Chris Keunen, Matt Guadagnin, VB, Strijky and Michael 'Dad' Lourey will be making the trip to the fountain of youth which will provide them with the energy for our next run of games.
Also in the bye week is our quiz night so be sure to buy some tickets for what will be a great night!
A big thankyou to all the fans that came out to make the International Football Festival a great success. Although not the result we wanted on-field, it was great to see the oval lined with plenty of supporters on a big day for the football club. It’s great to see such support for West Perth as the seniors, reserves, colts and females are all having great seasons and playing good footy.
A big part of that reserves form is the leadership from skip Kael Coolman who is finding a great balance between football, Fortnite and watching the World Cup.
Another factor in the on-field success is the unity the players get at our new facilities with a basketball ring and ping pong table set up to build relationships with one another.
Stand outs in these areas include Benjamin King in the table tennis arena whose lack of backhand ability is countered with his impeccable forehand and tenacity to leave work early just to get more hours on the table than superstar uncontested marker Kris Shannon. While Trent Manzone spends most of his spare time with Mark 'Hamo' Hamilton throwing bricks at the basketball hoop.
As for me, the year has provided a number of challenges but I’m happy to be a part of the midfield for a second year and also learning more on how to become a better leader. It was great for stars like Shane Nelson and Andrew Strijk to finally learn my name this year so whatever is to come of this year, nothing can compare to that achievement!
I could mention my long list of runner-up medals but I’ll just leave it as Luke Meadows #4.
