CHECK OUT THE NEW MEMORABILIA
CHECK OUT THE NEW MEMORABILIA
When you attend the first home game of the year against Subiaco make sure that you check out the new memorabilia upstairs in the clubrooms that showcases the link between the West Perth Football Club and the VFL/AFL. The West Perth Football Club has played a significant role in the development and recruitment of players and coaches, and this new display attempts to showcase our proud history, influence and contribution to the national game.
The project was the brainchild of our General Manager of Football, Steve Trewhella who has spent the past three years researching, collecting and acquiring football cards and photographs of players going back to 1891. Much help and support was also given to bring this display together and we make special mention to Sean Cowan for helping with the research, the Life Members Association and the Cardies Coffee Club for their financial support, Prestige Trophies for the engraving, Sports Imagery Australia for the production of some of the cards and Darrell Kent and Belinda Taylor for their help with the framing.
Steve said, “with the stature of the AFL today it’s an opportunity to showcase to our members and hopefully future members and younger supporters the link between the West Perth Football Club and the VFL/AFL competitions. As a club we are always very proud of the footballers and coaches that pull on the cardinal red and blue jumper and we take great pride when one of our players and/or coaches earns the opportunity at the highest level in the AFL. This display aims to capture and showcase this history and it’s timely given this year the Club is celebrating 130 years”.
Make sure that you check it out the next time you are at Provident Financial Oval where you can check out the first four frames and browse the amazing football careers and contributions to the game these men have made. Work will continue on the remaining players and coaches which the Club looks forward to receiving later this season.
