Falcons Stay True to Senior Coach Succession Plan
The West Perth Football Club is pleased to announce Jason Salecic will be taking over as head coach for the 2024 season.
Club President Dr Neale Fong stated, “When current coach Darren Harris took over the reins in late 2021 the Board made it clear that it wanted Darren to achieve two aims. Win a premiership and to set the football club up for long term success through developing coaches, including an internal senior coach succession”.
Jason Salecic has served a solid apprenticeship, is already a Falcon great and is ready to lead in 2024. Jason underwent a formal interview process with the board unanimously endorsing his appointment. Jason is humbled and honoured to be part of the club’s long-term vision. Salecic stated, “I would like to thank the football club for giving me the opportunity to coach. I am very fortunate to have a true friend and mentor in Darren Harris who has shown me the way not only in the past two years but going back to when I first started playing for the West Perth Football Club and for that I’m grateful”.
Darren Harris commented, "Our coaching and leadership succession plan began in November 2021 when I met with the Club and then its current group of coaches just after Geoff Valentines departure. I agreed to come on as coach and help mentor the next generation of coaches. Jason Salecic has become the standout coach who will take the club in the direction it needs to go and has a committed support team around him. His values are the West Perth Values. His character and knowledge will drive the future performance of our great club. I will be available to support Jason and the coaches in 2024 as John Dimmer did for me in 2002-3."
The current focus is on the 2023 season and the entire club is committed to making the top 5 and going all the way. Harris will coach for the rest of the 2023 season and the focus is on helping the current squad continue to improve and win games of football.
Having achieved a significant turnaround in the club’s on and off field performance the smooth transition is another indication of the maturity and leadership at the Falcons.
