COMETTI STILL NUMBER ONE

Thursday, July 18, 2013 - 2:58 PM

In front of a sold out luncheon crowd at Kailis Bros in Leederville, West Perth Number 1 Ticket Holder, Dennis Cometti wowed the Falcon faithful with his colour, charm and charisma.

All things football from the WAFL to AFL to cricket was covered in an entertaining and humorous manner.

In an interesting tack Cometti interviewed himself. Reading from palm cards were questions he would like to ask himself.

From favorite commentators to favourite players to the Essendon Football Club saga. A variety of topics were covered in a 40 minute segment that had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

Cometti rated the best five West Perth footballers of his time and not surprisingly Farmer was number one. The others were Mel Whinnen, Bill Dempsey, Peter Steward, and Brian France.

Still a keen fan of the game and in particular the Falcons, he also spoke about his soft spot for East Fremantle stemming from his boy hood idle in Bob Johnson. Johnson is an AFL Hall of Famer with a wonderful finals record at Melbourne and East Fremantle. Big Bob clearly had an impact on Cometti as kid growing up.

The raffle was won by club stalwart Ken Ferguson. Ken won a 2013 Legend football signed by Falcons Leadership Group and Daniel (Caaaarn Weeeest) Avery picking a Cometti autographed It’s a Grand Old Flag history book. A special thank you to Daniel who bought enough tickets to buy a swag of books.

The West Perth Football Club would to thank Theo and Michael Kailis for their ongoing and continued support of the club. The venue, meal and service is the arguably the best in Perth. The club would encourage all members to visit Kailis Bros in Leederville and tell them that you are a Falcons member.

The day coincided with this week’s launch of the Garlic Munchers Cup. West Perth will play South Fremantle this weekend at Arena Joondalup for the inaugural cup. The Falcons and the Bulldogs intend to make the Garlic Munchers Cup an annual event.

In 2008 West Perth unveiled their All-star Garlic Muncher Team of the Century with Cometti named at full forward. South Fremantle followed West Perth’s lead a few years later creating a unique opportunity to highlight both clubs wonderful ethnic heritage in the form of the Garlic Munchers Cup.
