WEST PERTH PRE-SEASON FIXTURES
WEST Perth's premiership defence begins this Friday night with an intra-club hit out before two clashes against East Perth and Subiaco at Leederville leading into the 2014 season proper getting underway.
It certainly feels as though time has flown since that memorable day last September when West Perth beat East Perth on Patersons Stadium to win the 2013 WAFL premiership, but the Falcons have been working hard over the pre-season in an effort to back up that stunning performance.
The Falcons have certainly not rested on their laurels since winning the premiership and even though captain Jason Salecic, Simpson Medallist Mark Hutchings and premiership forward Josh Mellington will be missed, depth was one of West Perth's greatest strengths in 2013.
Anthony Tsalikis, Trent Manzone, Matt Johnson, Brayden Antonio, Luke Meadows, James Batterham and Kris Shannon were among the players to miss out on that grand final triumph either through injury or by taking part in the reserves grand final against South Fremantle.
West Perth has also signed Matthew Spencer (formerly Swan Districts, Geelong) and Seva Martin (Subiaco) for the 2014 WAFL season.
The Falcons' first official hit out will take place this Friday night at the UWA Sports Ground in an intra-club match starting at 5.30pm.
West Perth will then spend the following fortnight playing matches at the club's spiritual home at Leederville's Medibank Stadium.
It begins on Friday February 28 when West Perth and East Perth do battle under lights with the league match bouncing down at 7pm.
The following weekend on Saturday March 8, West Perth takes on Subiaco at the same venue with bounce down at 4.05pm.
That all leads into Round 1 of the 2014 season proper when West Perth travels to East Fremantle Oval to face the Sharks on Saturday March 22 before the first home game at Arena Joondalup in Round 2 against Claremont where the premiership flag will be unfurled.
