FALCONS GO DOWN TO ROARING TIGERS
WEST Perth couldn’t quite pull off a strong second half comeback at the Claremont Showground on Saturday with Claremont holding on to win the contest by six points.
West Perth only managed to kick the one goal in each of the first two quarters of the contest, but then hit back in the second half with the only goal of the third quarter and then with the first two goals of the fourth quarter.
That saw the Falcons close to within under a goal of the Tigers during the last quarter, but in the end an in-form Claremont team recorded the 8.6 (54) to 6.12 (48) victory.
West Perth now has just the one match of the 2014 WAFL season remaining and that will take place this Saturday at Lathlain Park against a Perth team destined for the wooden spoon and who is on a 13-game losing streak.
That final game of the season will double as the farewell appearance for West Perth of retiring duo Dan Hunt and Anthony Tsalikis, and also the 150th game in the career of premiership ruckman Chris Keunen.
On Saturday against Claremont at the Showground, Aaron Black continued his outstanding season for the Falcons with another 36 possessions, eight marks and five inside-50 entries.
Fellow premiership midfielder Shane Nelson put in another hard-working performance for West Perth with 31 disposals.
Seva Martin and Max Alexander kicked two goals apiece for West Perth with Corey Chalmers and Drew Rohde booting one each.
Luke Meadows continues the strong start to his league career with another 20 disposals and five tackles while Ray Bartholomew racked up 20 possessions, Luke Tedesco 19, Rohan Kerr 19, Mitch van Berlo 17 and Laine Rasmussen 17.
Claremont also beat West Perth's reserves at the Showground 14.7 (91) to 10.7 (67).
Matt Fowler, Joe Morrow and Blake Wilhelm kicked two goals each for West Perth's reserves with Ben McNamara racking up 25 possessions, Shaun Marusic 24 (25 hit outs, seven inside 50s, six marks, one goal), Trent Manzone 24, Jack Thrum 22, Morrow 20 and Wilhelm two.
West Perth's colts didn’t fare much better either with Claremont coming away with an 18.15 (123) to 5.5 (35) to begin the day at the Showground.
Kaidyn Fullgrabe, Nathan Alexandre, Angus Innes, Tyson Moulton and Jordan Gray were West Perth's goal scorers with Clinton Hinchcliffe gathering 27 possessions, Dean Munns 21 and Angus Allen 17.
