IN THEIR WORDS – LUKE TEDESCO ROUND 5
FOOTBALL at WAFL level presents challenges every week for our playing group. Getting over little injuries or sore spots in order to prove match fitness, creating strategies for our opposition and the unknown wait for team selection all present obstacles for the boys to work through.
We now face the challenge of negotiating a 16-day break from the loss against Subiaco until our next game against Swan Districts.
Whilst it is a good opportunity to freshen up the body and the mind, we still need to put in the work to maintain our levels of fitness and work on our game plan. Fortunately we have a very driven group and I’m confident the time off won’t be to our detriment.
Although the season is still very young, our next block of four games is crucial in setting up our chances for a top five finish so we get back into the finals after the disappointment of missing out last year coming off our premiership.
Across the board, teams have shown a mix of form. It is shaping up as a very even 2015 season and early wins may have a big say in the long run.
It is fair to say we have shown some inconsistency to begin the season. Our game against Subiaco probably underlines that assessment. In the first quarter, we were at our sharpest defensively and offensively. What happened from there was a serious reality check as to what can transpire when we go outside our normal structure and game plan.
Although we have had some brilliant contributions from some of our boys through the first four games, our improvement definitely needs to come as a collective. We will continue to fine tune our ball movement, team defence and set pieces over the next week in the lead up to the contest against Swans.
It is exciting news for the club that Tyler Keitel is now officially a falcon. Not only is Tyler an exciting key position prospect, he is a quality young man. He has remained upbeat throughout his transfer process and he is thrilled he can finally train and be amongst the playing group.
