IN THEIR WORDS – CHRIS KEUNEN ROUND 7

Friday, May 1, 2015 - 10:06 PM by Chris Keunen

IT IS always a great feeling walking off the field after a win, but last week went up a notch after such a massive comeback. The crowd were certainly pumped and we as players were stoked to have pulled off such a great win.

I'm sure plenty of people had written us off when Swans went out to a 26-point lead, in fact my dad turned the radio off saying we were done. The self belief the playing group has was certainly seen by all who were listening and at the ground.

When we kicked the first goal in the come back we gained a little confidence and after the second, we were feeling pretty up. At this point it would have been hard for many sides to beat us. We were on a roll, although we did miss a few chances to put them way earlier.

Once the siren rang there was a huge relief that we had won. Then we realised what we had achieved in the last 10 minutes. I looked across and saw Teddy punching the air and yelling out with a huge "Yes!"

As a group we know how important that win was and what it has the potential to do for our season. It was a very rousing rendition of the song in the rooms after the game which included so many loyal supporters.

We were lucky to come away with the win but have to use the confidence gained in the coming weeks leading up to the bye. There are some big games we have coming up starting with Claremont, then East Perth and finally East Freo.

This week we play a side who will be desperate to get their first win of the season. Claremont are a much better team than 0-5 and will be out to get off the mark. We need to make sure that as a team, we stick to our structures and defend well as a team.

It will be an interesting match as it sees us come up against three former teammates with Mitch Andrews, Kepler Bradley and Mark Seaby to play for Claremont. This makes for a good amount of banter on the field, but also a bit of it off it from the fans. As a team we don't think too much about them and we focus on the job at hand, however for them, I am sure that they want to make a statement against their old side and give a little extra.

This week is even more important as it is Browney's 100th for the club. We have had a number of milestones already this year and it is always good to win for those players. Browney has been an important part of the team's makeup since coming back from Carlton. His ability to read the play, take strong marks and hit targets by foot, have been a major reason for our wins in the last few years. His leadership is an integral part of the team especially with a number of young guys coming through the backline at the moment. I wish Browny all the very best for the game and look forward to chairing him off after a win.

I hope to see all our supporters at the Showgrounds on Saturday. Go West!
