IN THEIR WORDS – LAINE RASMUSSEN ROUND 14
COMING up against Subiaco is one of the most anticipated games of the fixture for a lot of the guys in our team. Being our closest neighbouring district, many of us either grew up playing with or against a number of Subiaco players.
I played my junior footy in the Subiaco zone so still keep in contact and get the inside knowledge from some good mates from their squad. The personal nature of the game makes it that little bit more meaningful to get the win. With a few defectors also heading to Leederville to join their side I think most guys would agree that these games have become a bit of a ‘Northern Derby’.
Our group has shown great enthusiasm at training coming off some hard fought wins and I am confident that if we can approach this week’s game with the same mental application we will be able to cement ourselves as contenders going into the back half of the season.
The International Round is a great initiative the club has developed and one I am very proud to be part of it. It is a great opportunity to try and engage with our unique community and I’m sure it will pave the way for the ongoing success of our club in the years to come.
Playing in front of one of the biggest home and away crowds of the year always adds to the energy of the contest on the ground. The club has done very well in promoting the game and making sure there is always a suspenseful and controversial jumper reveal.
Being a fashionista, I enjoy being able to wear different outfits during the games. Matt Johnson has, however, made a formal complaint to David Crute about the jumpers, demanding that the sleeves be removed as he "can’t afford the tan-lines." Jay Van Berlo will also not be able to blame his fumbles on the sunscreen. I am hoping that my FIFA 15 ability is summoned by the soccer themed guernsey, as it is well known that I am the most talented Xbox player in our team.
