FEMALE FALCONS IN THE SPOTLIGHT AFTER HARD WORK
It’s been eight years since the female Falcons last claimed a premiership flag.
After years of building what has now become a united family on and off the field, the Falcons have soared together in 2015 to advance to the Grand Final this weekend against Claremont in the WA Womens Football League Reserves Competition.
The Falcons have met the Piranhas twice this year, Round 5 in the #OneLife round, the Falcons played the match with inspiration and went home with a big win, final score 11.12-78 to Claremont 2.3-15. When the Falcons hosted Claremont at HBF Arena during Round 11, the fortunes were reversed with the final score 3.7-25 to Claremont 8.9-57. Judging from these results this weekends game is going to be a tough battle between the two teams.
Nine wins and a draw from fourteen matches was a great accomplishment for the Falcons, but that accomplishment doesn’t compare with the pride the club has for what it has been able to produce.
A couple of players to watch:
First year player Brooke Hongell, who recently took out the 2015 WAWFL Rising Star award. Originally from a soccer and rugby background, Brooke proved her skills could easily be transferred to AFL during this year’s season. Brooke made an appearance at training just prior to the season and has committed her time to learning AFL, making her debut in Round 3, her performances have caught the eye of many.
Team mate Ashton Hill was a runaway winner in the WAWFL Fairest and Best by 12 votes at the awards night held on Monday 31st August. Ashton earned herself back to back titles in the WAWFL competition and will be pivotal on Sunday in the Final.
The quality of our new players places the club in a great position.
“we are all very excited about our prospects and hope that we’ll have lots of followers at the game to cheer us on to victory” (Club President Dave Burton said)
This is going to be a great match and will be live steamed on YouTube for those who can’t make it to Atom Stadium in East Fremantle. Game will start at 12noon.
