WEST Perth and Swan Districts meet for the third time this season on Saturday at Joondalup's HBF Arena with the Falcons desperate to get back to winning particular at home.

West Perth can no longer make the finals having now lost its last three matches and while Swan Districts does sit in third position on the ladder destined to take part in September action, the clash should still be a fascinating one between two teams with stark contrasts between their best and worst football.

Coming off winning last year's premiership, West Perth's 2014 campaign has never quite got off the ground despite threatening to a couple of different times.

Having now lost their last three games to Swan Districts, Subiaco and East Perth, West Perth has fallen to sixth position on the ladder with a 6-9 record to now be four games outside of fourth position with only five games of the year to go.

TERRIBLE conditions met West Perth at Leederville's Medibank Stadium on Saturday and the Falcons could manage just the two goals only four days after the Foxtel Cup grand final to lose to the league-leading East Perth by 21 points.

West Perth was coming back from having lost the Foxtel Cup grand final to Williamstown in Geelong on Tuesday night, and was without Nick Rodda, Kody Manning, Matt Fowler, Steve Potente, Jack Thrum and Andrew Strijk to take on the league-leading Royals.

The ground at Leederville was in terrible shape with the rain from during the week and on Saturday morning with the majority of the oval covered in heavy mud and the rest with huge puddles of water that made attractive football, or ball handing in general virtually impossible all day long.

THE conditions were very ordinary at Medibank Stadium on Saturday with the result being a 21-point loss to East Perth. The ground was covered with large pools of water and both teams battled away on the type of surface that is rarely seen at WAFL grounds. Goals were hard to come by and as a result the Falcons' troubles to score goals continued with them being able to only score two for the game.

The first four minutes were a virtual goal fest with each side kicking one. Callum Sinclair kicked one for the Royals after marking 40 metres out; Rohan Kerr tied it up for the Falcons when he did the same. This was to be the Falcons last goal until the six-minute mark of the final quarter. It wasn’t due to lack of effort as they battled hard all day but the rub of the green just didn’t go their way on a number of occasions. East Perth attacked consistently to score three behinds and that looked likely to be the quarter-time margin but at the 28-minute mark Craig Wulff marked 50 out and was gifted a major when he received a 50-metre penalty. As a result East Perth led 2.3 (15) to 1.0 (6) at quarter-time.

EAST Perth sits on top of the ladder and has had two weeks off while the majority of West Perth's team played in Geelong on Tuesday night and the Falcons are only just clinging to any finals hopes, but strange things can happen in Perth derbies.

East Perth-West Perth clashes have become the most heated on and off the field in recent times in the WAFL and expect no different this Saturday afternoon at Medibank Stadium in the third derby of the season and likely the last grand final rematch from last year.

West Perth won last year's grand final after beating East Perth by 49 points and then the Falcons also thumped the Royals by 100 points back in Round 4 also at the Leederville venue.

COLD, frosty and wet conditions met West Perth for its Foxtel Cup grand final with Williamstown at Geelong's Simonds Stadium on Tuesday night and the result was just the one-goal for the Falcons as the Seagulls record a 63-point victory.

The Seagulls dominated the contest from the outset at Simonds Stadium kicking the only five goals of the first quarter and keeping the Falcons goalless until the final term, and to the lowest score in the four-year history of the Foxtel Cup.

Williamstown went goalless itself in the second quarter, but then kicked the only two goals of the third term and three more to one in the last to run out 10.11 (71) to 1.2 (8) winners.

WEST Perth was outplayed by Subiaco at HBF Arena on Saturday. The Falcons led only once for the day and that was early in the first quarter, otherwise the Lions held sway through the midfield and as a result gave their forwards plenty of opportunities to win the game. It was a disappointing result in front of a crowd of over 5300 in what was another very successful celebration of West Perth's International Football Festival.

Four behinds were scored before the first goal of the match occurred. This went to the Falcons' Shane Nelson who took the ball off the back of the pack to put it through from the square. This gave West Perth a four-point lead and the advantage for the only time in the game. Subiaco kicked the next two to go to a nine-point lead before Anthony Tsalikis took a strong mark 40 metres out. His straight kick narrowed the margin. The Lions continued to attack, though, scoring behinds before a Charles Le Fanu goal took their lead out to 12 points. The Lions had peppered the goals during this period. West Perth finished the term with a major thanks to a Nick Rodda intercept 40 out, his straight kick reduced the margin to six at the first change; the Lions led 3.8 (26) to 3.2 (20).

WEST Perth is aiming to win its second premiership in less than 12 months, to become the second WAFL team to win the Foxtel Cup and to stop Williamstown winning it for a second time in Tuesday night's grand final at Geelong's Simonds Stadium.

West Perth is the reigning WAFL premiers and now has the chance to add the Foxtel Cup to its collection up against the VFL's Williamstown this Tuesday night.

I HAVE been back playing now for a few weeks and it's been good to obviously get back on the field. It was disappointing to miss three games and have four weeks off with my facial injuries, and to sit down and watch your mates play and not be able to help them. That is frustrating but also built the excitement about getting back out there.

I looked after myself and worked really hard over those weeks to get back and I was fortunate to get straight back into the side. Unfortunately one of the young blokes missed out as a result and you feel bad about that, but I have felt good about getting back out there. The helmet has added a bit of character to me as well and I guess the beard has as well which has gone on since I had the injury. I thought I would try a different look, but the wife doesn’t like it so it will have to come off sooner or later.

THIS Tuesday night is a great opportunity for myself to play back at home in Geelong and for us as a team to try to win another competition. It's something that you don’t get the chance to do that often given the Foxtel Cup is a very specific competition and to take West Perth back to my home town now and play in front of all my mates is going to be unreal. It will especially mean a lot to play in front of my family because it's pretty tough for them to get over to see games in Perth and even to come see me, so it's going to be good to get home and to even show the boys around good old Geelong.
