IT WAS a terrific day at HBF Arena on Saturday for the International Football Festival with well over 5000 fans in attendance and a successful citizenship ceremony, but in the end West Perth fell 25 points short of Subiaco in the match itself.

The West Perth Football Club hosted its annual International Football Festival and the day was again a big hit as the third biggest WAFL crowd of the season attended HBF Arena for the occasion that saw 60 new Australians receive citizenships before the match.

The Falcons also wore a specially designed jumper featuring several flags of a variety of countries with high populations in the Joondalup region while the final crowd of 5362 people has only been bettered by the 5566 at the Fremantle derby on WA Day and the 6201 at HBF Arena as well on WA Day when West Perth took on East Perth.

While all of that was successful, West Perth wasn’t able to get the crucial four points with Subiaco ending up winning 13.19 (97) to 11.6 (72).

West Perth needs to beat Subiaco to keep its slim finals hopes alive in 2014 as the Falcons celebrate an International Football Festival at HBF Arena in Joondalup.

It is set to be a massive day at HBF Arena on Saturday and as a result the colts game will be played on Friday night with bounce down at 6pm while the reserves match then begins at 10.40am on Saturday and the league match in the regular 2.05pm time slot.

The International Football Festival matches have been a tremendous success the past two years for the Falcons as well with 6044 watching on in 2012 when West Perth also played Subiaco while last year, 6195 people attended as East Fremantle came to HBF Arena for the occasion.

AN UNIMPRESSIVE second half against Swan Districts has all but ended the West Perth's finals aspirations this year. It is still mathematically possible for the Falcons to make the four this year but a number of results will need to fall their way and the team will need to regain the self-belief that was such a key ingredient last year.

WEST Perth hosted Swan Districts in NAIDOC Round of the WAFL on Saturday afternoon at HBF Arena but came up short with the black-and-whites recording a 29-point victory.

Over 2300 people attended Joondalup's HBF Arena as the West Perth Football Club celebrated Indigenous culture for NAIDOC Round and both teams looked resplendent in their specially designed jumpers for the occasion.

The Falcons got the first goal of the game through Nick Rodda and then led again just before half-time when Anthony Tsalikis ran into an open goal.

West Perth held a four-point advantage at the main break but Swan Districts kicked the first two goals of the third quarter and then the next five goals of the match either side of three quarter-time to set up the eventual 16.9 (105) to 11.10 (76) victory.

WEST Perth needs to keep winning to stay alive in the finals race while Swan Districts is out to bounce back with a win to further consolidate second position setting up a tremendous contest between the two at Joondalup's HBF Arena on Saturday.

The Falcons currently sit on a 6-6 win-loss record this season coming off last year's premiership to now be two games behind the fourth-placed East Fremantle and needing to keep winning to avoid falling further off the pace.

Swans, on the other hand, remain in second position on the ladder to be percentage off top spot and a game clear of the third-placed Subiaco despite a disappointing loss last weekend at home to Claremont by 26 points.

WEST Perth's finals hopes for 2014 will be decided over the next six weeks with two games against Swan Districts, clashes with the other three top four teams East Perth, Subiaco and East Fremantle as well as a trickily scheduled Foxtel Cup grand final in Geelong.

West Perth has played some outstanding football at times this season coming off last year's premiership, but the Falcons now sit on a 6-6 record heading into this Saturday's clash against the second-placed Swan Districts at Joondalup's HBF Arena.

The Falcons are currently four games behind the top two teams East Perth and Swan Districts, three behind the third-placed Subiaco and then two back from the fourth-placed East Fremantle, but now do play those four teams across the next five WAFL fixtures.
