FIVE more scoring shots, 25 more inside 50s, a goalless first half and a 30-point loss. They were just some of the facts that Falcons supporters had to come to terms with after the game against Peel at HBF Arena on Saturday.

It was a contest that the Falcons were not in all day after Peel kicked eight goals straight in the first half to eight behinds by the home team. Peel didn’t score their first behind for the day until the 20-minute mark of the fourth quarter and even that was a rushed behind.

This may sound like the ramblings of someone who doesn’t know what to say about what was a hard to understand game of football and, if so, you are right.

WEST Perth is back at HBF Arena to take on Peel Thunder in the WAFL NAIDOC Round on Saturday with the Falcons looking to replicate its earlier season standout performance against the reigning premiers in Mandurah.

WEST Perth and Peel Thunder both currently sit inside the WAFL top five with just one game between them but the difference between a win and loss will be stark for both on Saturday when they meet at HBF Arena.

West Perth and Peel have a recent of habit of playing some exciting, free-flowing and close encounters and this Saturday could very well be another of those with plenty on the line for both clubs.

Last week was a tough slog against Subiaco in some pretty interesting conditions. It had rained heavily for a few days and the ground had begun to look more like a swimming pool than a football oval. 

Subiaco are the best contested football side in the competition, and knowing this we knew winning the contested ball stats would be a huge indication of whether we would be able to win the game or not. The conditions had a major impact on this as well, with heavy rain making it contested every single possession contested. 

We started the game off extremely well with the ball pinned inside our forward 50 but unfortunately we couldn't kick a goal, which is becoming far too common in recent weeks. We managed to kick four behinds in the first 15-20 minutes. Showing our dominance early but our inability to score.

QUESTION: For the second straight week you finished full of running and were coming hard at the end, but just couldn’t get that goal to get in front?
ANSWER: Look last week it was a case of being really inaccurate in front of goals. This week it was a result of the conditions and clearly there was less of a puddle at the end towards the left than the right end of the ground. We unfortunately were kicking into the puddles which didn’t help us in the last quarter. I thought apart from the second quarter our effort was there and we were able to match them in a lot of areas. It's disappointing to come up short, I thought we were a chance to pinch it there for a bit and we got within five points and then a quick turnaround and up the other end it blew out to 11 or whatever it was. Which was disappointing and the players, they didn’t get the reward for the effort. I thought Subiaco were fantastic as well so given the conditions it was a pretty hard fought game.
