NELSON AGAIN LEADS WAY FOR FALCONS IN SANDOVER MEDAL

Monday, September 18, 2017 - 10:12 PM - by Chris Pike

SHANE Nelson has once again led the way for West Perth in the Sandover Medal vote count on Monday night but he couldn’t quite take it out with South Fremantle's Haiden Schloithe winning ahead of teammate Tim Kelly.

Nelson had yet another outstanding season for the Falcons. He played his 100th game along the way and led the league for possessions with 33.2 a game.

That was recognised in the Sandover Medal count on Monday as he led the way for the Falcons with 26 votes.

FALCONS LOSE TO SWANS TO BRING END TO 2017

Monday, September 4, 2017 - 2:34 PM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth couldn’t quite finish the job after hitting the front in the last quarter losing the WAFL elimination final to Swan Districts on Sunday at Steel Blue Oval with the Falcons season coming to an end in the process.

Swan Districts qualified for the AHG WAFL Finals Series in fourth position but had lost four straight games including a 61-point loss to the lowly East Fremantle last Saturday so it was always going to take something special to turn that around on Sunday.

West Perth might not have been in much better form losing seven of 10 games entering the finals too, but the Falcons were a team used to being there come finals time and who appeared better equipped coming into the contest. Read More [+]

FALCONS’ SEASON IS OVER

Monday, September 4, 2017 - 2:29 PM - by Darrell Kent

AN inaccurate first quarter was the precursor to a season-ending loss to Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday. West Perth rallied on a number of occasions to hit the front but on the final siren West Perth was 15 points short of Swans.

As a consequence the Falcons season is over but in the context of the year the fifth placing was a good result and will provide a launching pad for next year.

The first quarter was one in which West Perth received very little reward for effort. They kicked the first score of the match, a behind, before Swans kicked the first goal after receiving a 50m penalty. It went to dangerous forward, Ricky Cary. The Falcons followed with three behinds. Of the first four West Perth scoring shots, three were very kickable and this was to come back and haunt the visitors.

FALCONS NOW LOOK TO MAKE FINALS IMPACT

Sunday, September 3, 2017 - 9:35 AM - by Chris Pike

QUALIFYING for the finals is always the goal any season and it's a good achievement any time it's ticked off and now West Perth coach Bill Monaghan is looking forward to seeing how far the Falcons can go in 2017.

West Perth's form might not have been as strong as hoped to close the season, but the fact remains that the Falcons put in such a strong first half of the year to be in a good position and that by winning 10 games they were deserving of a finals spot ahead of East Perth and Claremont.

In the end as well it was only just over one per cent that West Perth missed out on hosting this Sunday's elimination final against Swan Districts.

ELIMINATION FINAL PREVIEW V SWAN DISTRICTS

Friday, September 1, 2017 - 4:50 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth is back in WAFL finals action in 2017 and after having fight hard to be there will be looking to make the most of it starting Sunday in the elimination final against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.

Neither team might be entering the AHG WAFL Finals Series in peak form but that will count for little when their seasons go on the line Sunday at the Bassendean venue.

With precious little separating the two teams over the course of the season with both winning 10 games and then Swan Districts only finishing in fourth position with a percentage 1.44 greater than that of West Perth, that says it all about the tightness of the contest that awaits.
