TEDESCO RIDES INTO RETIREMENT ON A HIGH
LUKE Tedesco never felt the West Perth Football Club owed him anything but the life member, former captain and premiership player was left humbled and honoured with the way his career was celebrated at the Breckler Medal night to close the 2016 season.
Tedesco gave his everything on and off the football field to firstly get his first opportunity at league level with West Perth back in 2007.
By 2009 with the arrival of new coach Bill Monaghan, he became a permanent fixture of the side and was a natural leader off half-back with his ability to win or halve contests, put his body on the line and then set up play out of defence with his good kicking skills.
FALCONS SIGN KEY POSITION PLAYER SCOTT SIMPSON
THE West Perth Football Club has made its first signing ahead of the 2017 WAFL season recruiting former Geelong-listed experienced key position player Scott Simpson to add further depth to the Falcons' big men stocks.
With Nick Rodda, Tyler Keitel and Mark Hamilton capable of filling a variety of key position roles, Michael Lourey returning for a third season in attack and Chris Keunen and Seva Mozhaev in the ruck, West Perth's big men department now looks strong with the addition of Simpson.
The recently turned 27-year-old stands 197cm tall and is strongly built tipping the scales around the 100kg range. He will be a strong addition for the Falcons whether he ends up settling in the back or forward-line.
CAPTAIN JAY VAN BERLO WINS SECOND BRECKLER MEDAL
AFTER two years straight as runner-up, West Perth captain Jay van Berlo has deservedly broken through to win a second Breckler Medal after being named the Falcons' fairest and best for the 2016 WAFL season on Friday night.
At a glittering dinner to celebrate the 2016 season in the Lakeview Ballroom at Joondalup Resort, the night was capped with van Berlo crowned the Breckler Medal winner as the league fairest and best player.
Having finished runner-up in Breckler Medal voting in each of the last two seasons behind Shane Nelson and Aaron Black, van Berlo now has a second fairest and best award in his career to go with the one he won back in 2008 prior to being drafted into the AFL by the Fremantle Dockers.
BRECKLER, ENNIS, DOMINISH MEDAL PREVIEWS
THE West Perth Football Club will celebrate its 2016 WAFL season on Friday night with the Breckler, Ennis and Dominish Medals all being presented at the fairest and best dinner at Joondalup Resort.
The Breckler Medal as the league fairest and best along with the Ennis Medal as reserves fairest and best, and the Dominish Medal as colts fairest and best will all be presented as part of a jam packed night to reflect back on the 2016 season for the Falcons.
West Perth's league team again made the finals in 2016 on the back of playing in the Grand Final in 2015. The Falcons did well to finish in third position with a 13-7 record after losing three of the opening four games of the season.
2016 WA STATE AFL DRAFT COMBINE
WEST Perth defender Luke Meadows had such a standout 2016 WAFL season with the Falcons that included representing Western Australia that he has been invited to attend the WA State AFL Draft Combine this Sunday.
The WA State AFL Draft Combine is being held this Sunday, October 16 at Herb Graham Recreation Centre, Mirrabooka.
A total of 16 WAFL players will commence testing at approximately 11am.
NEW FACILITY TO TAKE FLIGHT WHERE FALCONS DARE
PREMIER Colin Barnett today turned the first sod of soil to mark the beginning of the next stage of a $20 million Liberal National Government election commitment to redevelop HBF Arena in Joondalup.
Mr Barnett said $4.3 million was allocated in the 2016-17 State Budget to finalise the HBF Arena works which would see new basketball and football facilities built to be enjoyed by the West Perth Football Club, the Wanneroo Basketball Association and the wider community.
The new two storey football facilities include ticketing and merchandise areas, administration and function areas, player amenities, coach and support staff accommodation, football development services and member facilities.
KERR PAYS BACK FALCONS IN SPADES IN OUTSTANDING FOUR SEASONS
RECRUITING from interstate can be somewhat of a lottery for WAFL clubs but West Perth struck gold with Rohan Kerr who has delivered a tremendous consistent four years as a highly-skilled, prolific ball winning star.
Kerr was drafted to Carlton from the Dandenong Stingrays in 2009 and spent three years at the Blues without breaking through for an AFL debut but when he was delisted it was a fresh start he was after.
But even he couldn’t imagine that upon moving to Western Australia and join West Perth that by the time a new job meant playing WAFL football would become impossible four years later that he would be calling Perth home for the foreseeable future.

WEST PERTH ON NEW WHEELS
A minibus destined for the scrap heap is now at the service of the West Perth Football Club.
Chief executive David Crute said the club was looking to upgrade its team property van and needed a vehicle for its community programs and to transport people between Joondalup train station and Arena Joondalup.
“We asked a few of our contacts to be on the lookout for something suitable,” he said.
