WEST Perth returned to HBF Arena on Sunday for the WAFL first semi-final but lost at home to Peel Thunder for the first time since 2006 to see the Falcons' 2016 season come to an end.
Having made history last Sunday by winning the club's first ever final downing East Perth by 49 points at Bendigo Bank Stadium, Peel backed it up at HBF Arena on Sunday defeating last year's grand finalists West Perth 15.15 (105) to 7.3 (45).
While Peel had 17 Fremantle-listed players for a second straight week, it was their ability to perform as a team combined with the five WAFL-listed players that helped them dominate the contest.

WEST Perth's season ended on Sunday with a 60-point loss to Peel Thunder at HBF Arena.
This was the complete reversal of the last time that the two teams met on July 9 when West Perth held Peel to just 1.5 (11) for the whole game in Mandurah. It just goes to highlight how the addition of a number of seasoned AFL players can bolster a team and make them serious premiership contenders.
While it was a disappointing end to the season for the Falcons they did a really good job to win 13 matches after a slow start.

WEST Perth returns to HBF Arena on Sunday looking for a 13th straight win overall over Peel and a 12th in succession at home over the Thunder in the WAFL first semi-final.
Peel qualified for the WAFL finals for the first time in history in 2015 and its first ever final was also at the Joondalup venue against West Perth. It wasn’t a day to remember for the Thunder with the Falcons beating a depleted Peel outfit by 109 points.
It's fair to say the circumstances are vastly different going into this Sunday's game not only in terms of the personnel of both teams, but also because the game is cut-throat unlike last year's qualifying final when both went on to fight another week.

THE hardest job of any coach is telling deserving players that they have missed selection and that was never more true than last week for West Perth's Bill Monaghan and it will be no easier this week as he weighs whether or not changes are required.
West Perth came into the qualifying final with South Fremantle last Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in good form having won 12 of the last 15 matches following a 1-4 start to the season to qualify in third position on the WAFL ladder.
But Monaghan needed to find room for Tyler Keitel, Steve Potente, Dean Munns and Shane Nelson in the team and that meant some difficult selection decisions needed to be made.
