IN THEIR WORDS – LUKE MEADOWS ROUND 14

Thursday, July 5, 2018 - 1:47 PM - by Luke Meadows

FALCONS faithful, you’ve asked, and I have delivered!

Coming off a tough week against Subiaco the lads have reviewed and learnt from the weekend and now look forward to the challenge of beating East Fremantle at Shark Park this Saturday.

They pose a threat with some quality recruits in the off-season but our ability to 'unite' as a team and be 'relentless' for four quarters will hold us in good stead for a 'professional' win - quote Aaron Black's pre-game speech.

Tuesday, July 3, 2018 - 11:49 PM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth hosted yet another International Football Festival that drew a big crowd and was a tremendous success at Joondalup Arena on Saturday but the Falcons couldn’t quite hand Subiaco its first loss of 2018.

An impressive crowd of 5602 turned out for the now annual International Football Festival with West Perth hosting Subiaco at Joondalup Arena and they went on to see a tremendous WAFL contest as well between two in-form teams.

West Perth made a good start against the undefeated Subiaco to lead by 11 points during the first quarter. But the Lions managed to kick five of the next six goals of the game to end up leading by 13 points at half-time. Read More [+]

Not only is it a big day on Saturday at Joondalup Arena because of the WAFL game itself pitting the third placed West Perth up against the league-leading Subiaco, but the International Football Festival is proving one of the best days annually on the WAFL calendar.

Highlighting the job West Perth has done for the now annual event, 6044 watched Subiaco win by two points back in 2012 and 6195 watched East Fremantle win by 73 points in 2013.

MONAGHAN PASSIONATE AS EVER FOR FALCONS SUCCESS

Saturday, June 23, 2018 - 7:19 AM - by Chris Pike

EVERY game that Bill Monaghan coaches at West Perth, he extends his tenure as the club's longest-serving coach and every win he oversees grows his legacy as coaching the Falcons to the most wins, but his focus and passion remains as strong as ever.

On the back of his 204-game playing career at both Subiaco and Peel Thunder, Monaghan moved into a successful coaching stint with the Lions under Peter German as his assistant and then premiership-winning reserves coach.

Monaghan then had to undergo some disappointments by being overlooked for senior coaching positions and by the time he put his hand up to coach West Perth in 2009 after Todd Curley stood down upon accepting a role with Fremantle, he didn’t expect much.

FALCONS VETERANS SHINE IN THRILLING WIN OVER TIGERS

Tuesday, June 19, 2018 - 1:31 PM - by Chris Pike
ANDREW Strijk has now kicked 13 goals in his past two WAFL games inspiring West Perth to another thrilling win over Claremont on Saturday but it took a fingertip effort from fellow veteran Chris Keunen to deny the Tigers the winning goal at Claremont Oval.

The recent history between the two clubs was remarkable already entering Saturday's clash at Claremont Oval and it certainly continued.

West Perth had won six of the previous seven meetings with Claremont but four of those had only been by a combined 13 points and ever since the Tigers beat the Falcons by 119 points in Round 18, 2012, every game between the two teams had been decided by 10.6 points. Read More [+]

ROUND 11 PREVIEW V CLAREMONT

Saturday, June 16, 2018 - 8:20 AM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth heads to Claremont Oval for the first time in 2018 looking to continue its good recent run against Claremont and to further close in on second position on the WAFL ladder.

The Tigers and Falcons have built quite the strong rivalry in recent years where tempers have often boiled over and tight finishes have become the expected, and there's little reason not to expect something similar this Saturday at Claremont Oval.

There's plenty at stake for both clubs too with Claremont trying to break into the top five and West Perth attempting to further consolidate their position and close in further on South Fremantle's second spot.
