ANOTHER STRONG FINISH SEES FALCONS BOOK IN HOME FINAL
WEST Perth has once again finished all over the top of its opponent this time kicking the last four goals to beat South Fremantle by 23 points at Fremantle Oval on Saturday to guarantee second spot on the WAFL ladder and a home final.
West Perth had a narrow lead for most of the afternoon at the port, but South Fremantle kicked the first two goals of the last quarter to take the lead and challenge the Falcons to again find something.
But West Perth has been able to deliver big last quarters for much of the 2015 season and that was again the case on Saturday with the Falcons booting the final four goals to beat the Bulldogs 12.13 (85) to 9.8 (62).
VICTORY SECURES SECOND SPOT
WEST Perth once again showed its ability to dig deep and run out matches at Fremantle Oval on Saturday. The Falcons were challenged all day by South Fremantle who snatched the lead early in the last quarter but to their credit the Falcons dug deep to kick the last four goals of the game to ensure the important victory.
The loss of the in-form Chris Keunen and Aidan Lynch before the game set up a new set of challenges for West Perth but it gave the opportunity for big man Tim Sutherland to play his first league game of football and to his credit he didn’t look out of place. He held his own at the first bounce down but it was Souths who were first on the board courtesy of skipper Ryan Cook.
The first Falcons major went to Michael Lourey who was on the end of a pass by Shane Nelson. His accurate kick was his 33rd major for the year. Both sides battled for dominance during the next 10 minutes but behinds were the order of the day until the 21-minute mark when a long kick forward by key playmaker, Andrew Strijk, enabled Steve Potente to snap from the edge of the square. This gave West Perth an eight-point lead. The lead was short lived as Josh Pullman pulled one back for the Bulldogs. The Falcons’ reply was very quick, however, as a tap out of the middle saw Tyler Keitel take possession and handball to Strijk who finished on the run from 40. Another behind to West Perth followed before Craig White marked just before the siren. His accurate kick after the siren saw West Perth take a three-point lead into the first change; 3.5 (23) to 3.2 (20).
ROUND 22 PREVIEW V SOUTH FREMANTLE
WEST Perth heads to Fremantle Oval to take on the out of contention South Fremantle on Saturday with the Falcons looking to further consolidate second position on the WAFL ladder to move further towards a home final at HBF Arena.
West Perth is now looking solid in second position having beaten East Fremantle and Swan Districts the last two weeks to be in pole position to remain in that second spot and to secure a home final at HBF Arena in the first week.
With one team looking to finish the season on a high and the other to keep its good form going ahead of the finals, and to more importantly not suffer any more injuries, it still should be a game well worth keeping an eye on.
FALCONS TO JOIN IN 'SOCK IT TO SARCOMA' AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
THE West Perth Football Club will join the 'Sock it to Sarcoma' awareness campaign this weekend by wearing odd socks in support of Kalin Foley who was diagnosed with a rare soft tissue paediatric following a football injury.
Kalin Foley was in Year Seven in 2012 when he was diagnosed with a rare soft tissue paediatric sarcoma called Rhabdomyosarcoma after a suspected injury in a game of football.
Kalin played for Wanneroo Junior Football Club for many years & attended school at Prendiville Catholic College with many Ocean Ridge Junior Football Club players.
FALCONS TO HAVE TOUGH SELECTION CALLS IN LEAD UP TO FINALS
WEST Perth coach Bill Monaghan will carefully monitor the workload of his players with the potential of eight straight games leading into the finals, and then possibly not another break until the season is over depending on what happens come September.
However, he will also have some selection dilemmas over the last two games of the home and away season starting this Saturday at Fremantle Oval against South Fremantle and then finishing at HBF Arena in the last round against Claremont.
Co-captain Luke Tedesco along with key players Kris Shannon, Nick Rodda, Laine Rasmussen and Mitch van Berlo will all be pressing for selection on return from injury either this week or next while some others are banging down the door based on their reserves form.

WEST Perth took the best shot from Swan Districts and delivered a dominant final quarter to win by 21 points at HBF Arena on Saturday to remain in second position on the WAFL ladder.
After a tight contest all afternoon, West Perth kicked the only four goals of the final quarter to beat Swan Districts 14.12 (96) to 11.9 (75).
The result means that West Perth now remains unbeaten at HBF Arena this season in nine matches while also remaining solid in second position on the WAFL ladder to be in pole position to earn the finals double chance, and a home final in the first week against which team finishes third.
The two teams had already played out two thrillers this season with the Falcons winning at HBF Arena back on the Anzac Day holiday Monday coming back from trailing by 26 points at the 22-minute mark of the last quarter.
