THE West Perth Football Club is saddened by the news that 1942 premiership player and leading goalkicker Ted Brunton passed away earlier this week.
Brunton joined West Perth in 1942 from Swan Districts during World War II and had an immediate impact at the Cardinals along with Sandover Medallist Laurie Bowen and Ralph Latham.
He arrived at West Perth as a 16-year-old and turned 17 during the 1942 season with the WANFL playing as an underage competition during the war.

WEST Perth lived up to the occasion at HBF Arena on Saturday with a stirring 10-point victory against the ladder leading Subiaco in front of a massive crowd for the International Football Festival.
Prior to the game more than 70 people became Australian citizens and the pride that was evident amongst this group was reflected in the West Perth performance. The International Day was a huge success with 7389 people attending and the concept is one which the Falcons can justifiably be proud of as it strives to bring a new generation of West Perth fans to the footy.

WEST Perth hosts Subiaco in a battle between the two WAFL teams at HBF Arena on Saturday as the Falcons look to celebrate the annual International Football Festival by proving that the league-leading Lions aren’t as invincible as they appear to be.
A massive afternoon is planned at HBF Arena for the International Football Festival with another big crowd expected in recognition of the multiculturalism of the West Perth zone in the northern corridor, and to attract the migrants to the region to the game of Australian Rules football.
It has proved a tremendous success with big crowds attending the past two seasons and now plenty is planned again on Saturday including a citizenship ceremony, international food stalls, the Falcons wearing a specially designed jumper and then a Gaelic Football showcase match to close the day.

COMING up against Subiaco is one of the most anticipated games of the fixture for a lot of the guys in our team. Being our closest neighbouring district, many of us either grew up playing with or against a number of Subiaco players.
I played my junior footy in the Subiaco zone so still keep in contact and get the inside knowledge from some good mates from their squad. The personal nature of the game makes it that little bit more meaningful to get the win. With a few defectors also heading to Leederville to join their side I think most guys would agree that these games have become a bit of a ‘Northern Derby’.
Our group has shown great enthusiasm at training coming off some hard fought wins and I am confident that if we can approach this week’s game with the same mental application we will be able to cement ourselves as contenders going into the back half of the season.

IT WASN'T a pretty game of football in the blustery conditions at HBF Arena on Saturday but that didn’t detract from the importance of the four points picked up by West Perth over South Fremantle. The win leaves the Falcons one game clear in second spot leading into a clash with league leaders, Subiaco, on Saturday. It is the International Football Festival and should be played in front of a large crowd. The Garlic Munchers Cup will also remain in the hands of the Falcons for another year as the victory gave West Perth its second win in the three years that it has been in place.
