MUNNS, NELSON PIVOTAL PARTS OF WEST PERTH WINNING RUN

Friday, June 24, 2016 - 1:58 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth has won seven straight matches in the WAFL and it's no coincidence that has gone hand in hand with Shane Nelson dominating winning the ball in the midfield and Dean Munns shutting down the opposition's best player.

The Falcons had a slow start to the season winning just one of the first five matches leading into a do-or-die clash with Swan Districts back in Round 6.

Nelson came in for his first game of the year that day after a finger injury while Munns also received the call up to make his debut, and neither has looked back since and nor has West Perth as a team.

BILL GETS GRILLED – BILL MONAGHAN ROUND 13 Q & A

Wednesday, June 22, 2016 - 9:20 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth premiership coach Bill Monaghan discusses Saturday's seventh straight win in a heated clash with Claremont to move the Falcons to seventh spot on the WAFL ladder ahead of a clash this Saturday with the second placed South Fremantle at HBF Arena.

QUESTION: Given you were well on top for more than three quarters, lost a couple of players to injury and were playing a desperate team, I think you would have left pretty happy despite Claremont's late comeback?
ANSWER: Very much so, we would take four points every day of the week. Sometimes you are happy with the way you win, sometimes you're not but you always take the points. For two and three-quarter quarters we were very good and that's why we were 30 or 40 points up. They kicked a couple late in the third quarter that probably gave them a bit of a sniff, and their season was on the line and we were coming off some good form and mentally we just relaxed a little bit. Then as we've shown a couple of times in the last couple of years things can change pretty quickly. I wasn’t overly happy, but not totally unhappy either.

EMERGING STAR MEADOWS SOAKS UP STATE DEBUT

Thursday, June 16, 2016 - 12:57 PM - by Chris Pike

LUKE Meadows might only be 38 games into his WAFL career but he proved himself one of the best all-round talents in the competition again on Saturday as the 21-year-old starred in Western Australia's record state game victory over Tasmania.

Meadows got his first taste of league football at West Perth back in 2013 and played another seven matches in 2014, but it wasn’t until last year until he found a permanent place in the team.

That was in dual roles as a half-back and half-forward but he found himself out of the team for the Falcons' run to the grand final.

IN THEIR WORDS – DREW ROHDE ROUND 13

Thursday, June 16, 2016 - 12:10 AM - by Drew Rohde

WELCOME to this week's edition of footballers trying to be journalists, every loyal West Perth supporters' favourite mid-week read.

Pikey has asked me to write a gripping and compelling narrative surrounding the State Game fixture from the weekend, recap the WA derby victory against the arch nemesis the East Perth Eagles, and give a brief insight into the lead up to this weekend's clash against Claremont at the Claremont Showgrounds.

Victories against East Perth are always sweet, but none are sweeter than the WA Day Derby win which always positions itself to be one of the biggest clashes in the West Perth fixtures, year on year. The win against our rivals last weekend was as unyielding performance as you will see across the board, much like Ashley and Martin have done for Mitch Antonio, with all 22 players contributing to get the points.
