FALCONS EXCITED FOR SIX PLAYERS IN WAFL TEAM

Friday, June 10, 2016 - 12:25 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth coach Bill Monaghan is fully supportive of his six players taking part in Saturday's state match against Tasmania despite the five-day break especially on-fire midfielder Shane Nelson who was the last player cut from last year's WAFL team.

Andrew Strijk will represent Western Australia for a fifth time, Jay van Berlo a third, Aaron Black a third, Shane Nelson a second, Nick Rodda a second and Luke Meadows the first as the WAFL representative side takes on Tasmania at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday.

West Perth only just played against East Perth on Monday with the Falcons winning the Channel 9 WA Day Derby by 31 points for a sixth straight win, but despite that Monaghan has no concerns over his players backing up to play for WA on Saturday.

BILL GETS GRILLED – BILL MONAGHAN ROUND 12 Q & A

Thursday, June 9, 2016 - 4:12 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth premiership coach Bill Monaghan discusses the win over East Perth in the Channel 9 WA Day Derby at HBF Arena to give the Falcons six straight victories heading into this Saturday's WAFL state match against Tasmania at Steel Blue Oval.

QUESTION: Strong win in some tough conditions, especially after half-time?
ANSWER: I thought we just overused the ball a little bit by hand. We are very much a side who likes to kick but for some reason we kept fabricating handballs. I got a little bit cranky at the players at half-time just asking them to kick the ball a little bit more and that improved. We just felt that if we could get the ball in quickly to the forward-line before they could set up defensively we were a chance. It worked out a little bit that way so I was proud of the guys' effort.

FALCONS TOO GOOD IN CHANNEL 9 WA DAY DERBY

Tuesday, June 7, 2016 - 3:32 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth has overpowered East Perth to record a 31-point win in the Channel 9 WA Day Derby at HBF Arena to give the Falcons six wins on the trot.

The 11.9 (75) to 5.14 (44) victory is the sixth in succession for West Perth since a 60-point loss also to East Perth back in Round 5 at Medibank Stadium.

The Falcons have now beaten Swan Districts, Claremont, Peel Thunder, Subiaco, Perth and East Perth since that loss to have improved from a 1-4 record to be only percentage off bottom spot to now be 7-4 and only percentage from third, and one game and percentage from first.

FALCONS SCORE A ROYAL VICTORY

Tuesday, June 7, 2016 - 1:44 PM

West Perth continued their very good run of form with an impressive thirty one point victory against East Perth at HBF Arena on Monday. The result was in complete contrast to the ten goal defeat suffered earlier in the year and highlights the significance of the return of senior players and the development of the younger brigade. The strong attack on the football that has become a feature of the Falcon game plan was once again a key factor in the victory.

CHANNEL 9 WA DAY DERBY PREVIEW V EAST PERTH

Monday, June 6, 2016 - 2:12 AM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth has the chance to win a sixth straight match and to sit three games clear inside the WAFL's top five with a win over arch-rivals East Perth in the Channel 9 WA Day Derby at HBF Arena on Monday.

West Perth and East Perth enter the WA Day Derby at HBF Arena in vastly contrasting form but history shows form counts for little in traditional derby clashes and the Royals will be hoping to prove that true once more.

The Falcons had a slow start to the 2016 season winning one of their first five games but they have now got some key players back from injury and the wins have come as a result.

BILL GETS GRILLED – BILL MONAGHAN ROUND 11 Q & A

Thursday, June 2, 2016 - 7:15 AM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth premiership coach Bill Monaghan discusses Saturday's win over Perth that was the fifth in-a-row for the Falcons and looks ahead to the Channel 9 WA Day Derby this Monday against East Perth at HBF Arena.

QUESTION: Saturday's performance probably wasn’t the greatest and you might not have been happy with quite a bit of it, but it was another important four points to rack up?
ANSWER: To Perth's credit I thought they were fantastic through the midfield, they ran really hard and ran hard off half-back. They weren’t a pushover by any means but it didn’t feel as though we played with the same intensity or defensive effort as we had over the last month or so. I was a little disappointed with that but for the players to work through that and come away with a four-goal win in the end was still a reasonably good performance, but we were a long way off where we need to be at.

FALCONS GET THE JOB DONE

Monday, May 30, 2016 - 1:49 PM - by Darrell Kent

IT was a real struggle all day but West Perth eventually wore down Perth to record an important 26-point victory at Lathlain Park on Saturday.

The game was played in pleasant conditions in contrast to a number of previous Saturdays. There were periods of good football with both sides moving the ball quickly but they found it difficult to take advantage and  there were long periods without a goal being scored.

ROUND 11 PREVIEW V PERTH

Friday, May 27, 2016 - 6:39 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth hasn’t lost to Perth since 2011, hasn’t lost at Lathlain Park since 2004 and is now on a four-game winning streak heading into Saturday's Round 11 clash with Perth.

West Perth heads to Lathlain Park in fifth position on the WAFL ladder following four strong wins over Swan Districts, Claremont, Peel Thunder and Subiaco. The Falcons have dramatically improved from a tough position at 1-4 to now be 5-4 and have plenty of momentum.

On top of that, West Perth has dominated Perth over the past decade. Perth's last win at Lathlain Park over West Perth came back in Round 9, 2004. Since then the Falcons have won 10 of the 11 matches only intersected by a draw in 2008.

Those 10 wins for West Perth at Lathlain Park have come at an average of 37 points.
