A WIN FULL OF MERIT

Monday, May 23, 2016 - 6:14 PM - by Darrell Kent

THE weather conditions were as wintry as you were likely to see but the effort of West Perth brought more than a ray of sunshine to the supporters who turned up to watch them in action against Subiaco at Medibank Stadium on Saturday.

Their disciplined attack on the football set up the 26-point victory and gave the Falcons their fifth win of the year.

The first quarter was played in relatively dry conditions but the wind was certainly a factor.

West Perth had first use of it but Subiaco did most of the early attacking. Matt Johnson was the first to hit the scoreboard after marking outside 50. His long, penetrating kick split the middle at the six-minute mark.

FALCONS OVERRUN LIONS TO MAKE IT FOUR STRAIGHT

Monday, May 23, 2016 - 3:34 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth returned from the bye and got a measure of revenge over Subiaco with a 26-point win at Medibank Stadium that gives the Falcons a fourth straight victory to return to the WAFL's top five.

The Falcons' season looked in trouble at 1-4 heading into the Anzac Day Round clash with Swan Districts, but that sparked a form turnaround for West Perth that has now led into wins over Claremont, Peel Thunder and Subiaco.

West Perth's 25-point win over Subiaco in stormy conditions at Leederville on Saturday improves the Falcons to a 5-4 record to replace East Perth in the top five ahead of a clash with Perth this Saturday at Lathlain Park.

IN THEIR WORDS – LAINE RASMUSSEN ROUND 10

Friday, May 20, 2016 - 2:15 PM - by Laine Rasmussen

NOT only are we blessed to possess some of the best young footballing talent in the state, we have a diverse group of intelligent and sophisticated young men representing our club.

Drew and Kody have both demonstrated this well, with articulate and witty articles in previous weeks. It is great to see that they have both not only just read, but have taken note of my earlier articles and have confirmed their abilities to use the ‘copy and paste’ function of their respective computers. With a plethora of clichés at their disposal, you have been kept up to date with exactly how we are feeling as a football team (and how hard it is to keep up with the constant metamorphosis of nicknames).

This week, I shall change tack, as my value in giving insights to our current playing form and expectations of things to come is currently quite limited. Due to a string of injuries I’ve spent a fair bit of time away from the club which has allowed me to focus on a variety of other pursuits.

IN THEIR WORDS – KODY MANNING ROUND 9

Saturday, May 14, 2016 - 12:58 PM - by Kody Manning

AFTER getting a message from Chris Pike earlier in the week asking if I was interested in doing a ‘players column’ this week it took me a while to reply. One reason being if I’d be able to keep up with the likes of Dr Rasmussen and Co who have held this torch before me. SO, here we go.

After returning from KULIN with a hard fought win and not forgetting the eventful drive home with Ozzy Adventurer Russell Coight being the bus driver, we got to see the sights of Kulin – (actually every back street) - the boys had to get straight back into things and start preparing for the next week’s game against Peel, which wasn’t going to be an easy task.

Throughout the week the boys were up and about thriving off the win and going into the game with a lot of confidence, boys were laughing, joking round, and most importantly hitting targets - just the overall moral was high!

BILL GETS GRILLED – BILL MONAGHAN ROUND 8 Q & A

Thursday, May 12, 2016 - 12:56 AM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth premiership coach Bill Monaghan discusses Saturday's hard fought win over Peel Thunder at HBF Arena to improve the Falcons to 4-4 on the season ahead of the bye and a clash with Subiaco at Medibank Stadium in Round 10.

QUESTION: Was that the best game Tyler Keitel has played?
ANSWER: It was a day that was suited to backs and if you look at both sides, I reckon the majority of the best players were probably from the back half. Tyler read the ball really well, marked the ball well and he was solid in the contest against some quality opposition. But the conditions suited defending more so than attacking and eight goals to five suggests it was hard to score. Meadows had 30-odd possessions, Tyler had 30-odd possessions and I think Drew Rohde had 25 and Manning spent a fair of time back finding plenty of it. We are really pleased with Tyler's progress and we think in time he's going to turn into an extremely good player. He's still a young kid and unfortunately he got a lot of press last year that put a lot of pressure on him, but he is coming along nicely.

FALCONS ATTACK ON THE FOOTBALL A FEATURE

Tuesday, May 10, 2016 - 12:02 PM - by Darrell Kent

THERE was a lot to like about  West Perth's victory at HBF Arena on Saturday. The start of the game coincided with a heavy down pour of rain after the Falcons won the toss and kicked into the wind.

From the first bounce the West Perth attack on the football was ferocious and as the game progressed it was also unrelenting. Due to the conditions, the game didn’t reach any great heights but the pressure exerted by the Falcons was to be admired and it resulted in an important victory.

FALCONS OVERRUN THUNDER FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Monday, May 9, 2016 - 12:39 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth delivered a dominant last quarter to overrun Peel Thunder and win by 17 points at HBF Arena on Saturday in difficult conditions with the Falcons entering the bye with a third straight victory.

With the stints of rain and strong breeze, it was a tough day for either side to play attractive football and little separated them for three quarters, but the Falcons pulled away with four goals to one in the last term to win 8.10 (58) to 5.11 (41).

The win is a third straight for West Perth to see the Falcons now enter the bye this week on a 4-4 record ahead of a grand final rematch against Subiaco at Medibank Stadium in Round 10.
